About The Artist
Janis has had a passion for all things art and nature since childhood where she grew up climbing avocado trees and riding her horse in the rolling green hills of rural California. She found creative inspiration all around, drawing and painting in many mediums, anything other than crayons. Later in her teen years, Janis took private oil painting lessons and fell in love with landscape painting, particularly interested in depicting images of Maine where she grew up spending many memorable summers with her grandparents.
Around the mid 1980s, soon after attending Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Janis embarked on an exciting career as an art director at several large advertising agencies in Los Angeles. In later years while raising her family, she became a busy teaching artist in her community, creating and conducting a variety of creative events and art workshops for the city. At one point, her success in developing a very popular after school art program at a local elementary school brought her great unexpected pleasure and inspiration. It was at this time that a few of her published articles featuring exceptional creativity in her classroom caught the attention of world renowned Faber-Castell, manufacturer of high quality and innovative art materials. This led to a working relationship in which Janis has been creating artwork and lesson plans for them ever since, using a variety of their mediums including graphite, pastel, colored pencil, watercolor and acrylic paint.
Today Janis has come full circle combining her love of landscape painting and drawing wildlife and pet portraits. She is currently dividing her time between art studios in Ponte Vedra Florida and East Boothbay Maine, where she enjoys incredible art inspiration from both locations. The breathtaking skies, sparkling waters and colorful wildlife of Northeast Florida and the quintessential scenes of Midcoast Maine bring endless joy and creative possibilities.
